Frequently asked questions

When does the zine publish?

The zine publishes on September 1, 2026.

When will I get my order?

All preorders will ship at the end of August. After September 1, all orders will be fulfilled upon purchase.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is a flat fee of $6.

Do you ship outside the US?

Not right now. Currently, the cost to ship the zine to Europe, for instance, is higher than the cost of the zine itself. As such, I’m working to find bookstores outside of the US that might want to stock the zine, as shipping in bulk makes more sense than mailing individual copies overseas. If you do want to pay for shipping on a single copy, you can email us at hello@thirtycabins.com and we’ll work something out.

Who is behind this project?

Josh Riedel is the publisher and editor, and Rebecca Ackermann helped with design. Our full list of contributors is listed above.

What’s the inspiration for the project?

While writing my second novel, I became fascinated with Sunset’s Cabin Plan Book, a classic guide to designing and building vacation cabins, first published in 1918. The book lists plans for thirty wildly different types of cabins (“a SKI LODGE in SNOW COUNTRY”; “a BEACH HOUSE MODERN”), sometimes with whimsical names (“here is a CABIN THAT GROWS”). I came to think of the book as a collection of abandoned cabins, and I wanted to reinhabit them.

So I invited fiction writers each to select one cabin to write about and gathered all their stories here in this zine.

Will there be other volumes of the Thirty Cabins zine?

Yes.
